The cover of Time magazine.

This is actually from last year, so I updated it for them. Gustav evacuees are coming to town and it's starting to feel a lot like three years ago.
My debut perfume collection will be The City That Care Forgot. It's always been "the New Orleans collection," but it wasn't until I was listening to Dr. John's most recent album that I realized it's the perfect title. I don't have an eta on the collection at present--I'm having supplier issues--but the scent titles at this time are: Magazine Street, Tchoupitoulas, Order of the Garter, Pontchartrain, Battle of New Orleans 1815, Vampires and Saints, Samedi, Laveau, Lundi Mardi, At the Cafe, Fairgrounds, Tribes, See That Girl All Dressed In (Blue, Red, Green, Orange, Black, Tan), and Battle of New Orleans 2005.
I really love that Dr. John record. He puts into words for me what was just raw emotion.
Crime after crime, lie after lie
So many people go crazy when you leave 'em to die
This thing ain't over, don't close that door
There's a whole lot of shit to be answered for.
I'm sayin'.
The smell of death still hangs
On the honeysuckle vine
Magnolias lie in the streets
In The City That Care Forgot
Everything sacred been strung up and shot
In The City That Care Forgot.
In the mornings at work before Katrina, I'd always see this New Orleans tourism commercial. I loved the song and would sing along to it as I worked. I wonder what happened to all those people. I wish they'd bring this ad back.
I was cleaning out my new bedroom earlier and I found an ancient postcard for Preservation Hall. It's comforting to know that loving that city is in my blood.
The end credits for When The Levees Broke:
Got to love that accent.
