So today I texted one of the musos--

Me: I've been thinking of my time with [Some Band] as something with an end, the beginning of which is approaching. I now think this incorrect. If anything, this is the end of the beginning.
Muso: You can check out but you can never leave.
Me: I'm Tinkerbell to a bunch of musical Lost Boys.
Muso: I'm clapping my hands!

So that made me feel all squishy. Then one of the aestheticians came into the break room. "I was just on al.com and The Strokes are coming."

"Buh? They're coming where?"
"Here!"
"Where here?"
"Sloss!"
"OMG!"

OMGOMGOMGOMGOMG. I'm going to see the Strokes next month! I'm also going to see Rose Hill Drive this month and 30 Seconds to Mars next month. And I might go to the Crawfish Boil. And Alabama is finally getting a Sephora next month. Whee!

After all that and four massages, I decided to go get a membership at the video store a few blocks down from work since driving to my home video store is sometimes a journey I don't feel up to taking after work (it's +20 minutes onto my regular drive). I got the distinct impression that the guy at the store was flirting with me and I was pleased to hear that he thinks that Wolf Creek sucked beyond the telling. Finding people that think that is becoming a surprisingly efficient way to make friends. That's how I found the lovely [livejournal.com profile] sarahofthedead, after all. Then, he gave me my rental for free. Sweet! So now I have unrated Hostel-y goodness and oh my gosh, I'd forgotten how pretty Barbara Nedeljakova is. Also, after last month, the lines about the fannypack are infinitely funnier.

I finished Charmed Thirds today and I have to say, I don't get the bad reviews. I didn't really read the bad reviews before--I skimmed since they tend to be spoilery--but reading them now, it's seems they fall into a few categories: people who didn't want Jessica to grow up (read: have sex and/or use the f-word), girls that seem to be under the impression that Marcus is the protagonist and not J, Republicans who are emo because Jessica doesn't like them, people who think every college experience is just like theirs or who have never been to college, and the most popular, people who failed reading comprehension. "I can't believe [something that didn't actually happen in the book but thanks for playing]." It's not perfect--I don't think McCafferty should have tried to do all four years in one book, for one thing. But overall, I enjoyed it.

So in summary, hooray! Today was a good day. And now I'm going to stay in (sleeeepy) and watch horror movies!

The Strokes? Lucky you!

I swear, Louisiana has turned into a vortex of suck, especially after Hurricane Katrina hit. No one good comes here that often. Especially now.

That really sucks. I've had some of my best concert experiences in New Orleans (that's where I met my friends--outside the Howlin' Wolf!) and nearly every genre of music owes a debt to the Queen of the Mississippi.

Agreed! It's a great, great place to have shows. But lots of artists tend to bypass it. As far as the type of music I listen to goes, the talent buyers I interned for last year were really beginning to bring great acts to TwiRoPa. It was about to become even better, but then Katrina came and the venue has shut down for good. Needless to say, it's been pretty lousy since then.

My US DVD of Hostel is in the post, somewhere, right now. Hee. :D

I think we should just tell everyone we hate Wolf Creek -- after all, you wouldn't want to be friends with someone who liked it, would you?

Hooray! I'm getting kind of sad because I have only one commentary left to watch. I love hearing Eli talk about horror.

Re: WC, no I would not! I've added "hating Wolf Creek" to my interests, in fact. I'm so irritated by the apologists who are trying to say that the only people who hate are people who dislike the genre. What genre is that, crap*?

*I love crap horror but of course, WC isn't even good in a bad way.

Awesome, I think I shall have to add that to my interests, too. :)

How many commentaries are there? eeee I want my DVD to arrive.

There are four:

--Eli's solo commentary
--Director and Executive Producer Commentary with Quentin Tarantino, Boaz Yakin, Scott Spiegel and Eli Roth
--Director and Producer’s Commentary with Eli, Chris Briggs (producer) and Gabriel Roth (documentarian)
--Director and Guest Commentary with Harry Knowles, Eythor and Barbara

My favorites are the first two. The making-of featurette is fun, too.

Awesome. I can't wait!! Dammit.

I like Gabe Roth, too. Funny guy. :)

I think Gabe did the featurette, which is cool.

I am reading your review of Hostel right now (as well as not not watching it). I think I'm going to make a list of horror movies I have not liked.

Heh, I am just reading your Myspace. I'm amused that we have both apparently taken to defining ourselves by our hatred of Wolf Creek.

P.S. I didn't know you were so pretty!!

Well, I was updating it earlier and I was thinking about what you said yesterday and I realized that I don't want any WC-sympathizers on my friends list. Or like Ebert said in his review, "If anyone you know says this is the one they want to see, my advice is: Don't know that person no more."

And thank you!

I am such a fan of Ebert right now. I got home from Silent Hill in a rage, then read his review of it, and that made it slightly better.

Not that much better, though, I still sat through that 127 minute travesty.

Awwww. Well, it's about time we got some bands here that I want to see--I'm sure I'll have a dry spell here soon enough.

It amuses me that they had to apply lots of makeup to BN to make her ugly in the pub scene--the rest of the time, it's mostly just her fresh face. I like that it's not a too perfect Hollywood face--she's got that one quirky tooth, for example--and I think it makes her way sexier than your average actress. Plus, I just like saying Nedeljakova.
