I actually didn't hate The Happening, but I think I've just discovered that people hanging themselves in films really, really freaks me out, and there were lots of moments where The Happening gave me goosebumps. Which is rare!

Mark Wahlberg is terrible in it, though. I love him in I Heart Huckabees, but something went wrong in The Happening.

Yeah, I'm still interested in seeing it. The trailer gave me chills, which is more than I can say for a lot of movies save maybe The Strangers, which just makes me want to cry.

I'm worried about my judgement, though - I just watched the Jessica Alba version of The Eye, and I didn't think that was terrible, either. Not great, but not terrible. Maybe I've watched so much crap that my bar has become lowered?

It's the movie with Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman as the couple who go away to their secluded mountain home and are tormented by three masked uh, strangers. Trailer here. It should hit your shores in August.

I haven't seen it yet but I watched Funny Games this week, which has a somewhat similar plot. Also similar to Ils, which I haven't seen either. I still don't know what I think about it. I too think my horror taste may have been stunted by crap.
